It is comprised of 500 verses divided into five sections, or Shatakams, each containing 100 verses. The text was composed by a poet known as Mooka Kavi (the "Mute Poet"). According to legend, he was born without the ability to speak but miraculously gained his voice and poetic talent after receiving the grace of Goddess Kamakshi. He later became the 20th Acharya of the Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, known as Sri Muka Shankarendra Saraswati. Each of the five Shatakams focuses on a specific aspect of the Goddess using different poetic meters: Arya Shatakam: Describes the divine attributes and presence of the Goddess. Padaravinda Shatakam: Dedicated to the beauty of her lotus feet. Stuti Shatakam: Contains verses of praise for her universal glory and forms. Kataksha Shatakam: Focuses on her merciful and blessing side-glance. Mandasmita Shatakam: Celebrates her gentle and beatific smile.
